Summer 6U Program

The season runs June-July and will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Teams will be formed by the school they attend and/or number of girls signed up. ERYSA teams play a game schedule with surrounding communities and games will be played at our fields and theirs. Other communities include Rogers, Big Lake, Zimmerman, and Princeton.

Volunteers - ERYSA will host tournaments this summer. Summer 8U Program

The objective of this league is to provide a fun opportunity for girls to learn the fundamentals of fastpitch softball (e.g. throwing, hitting, fielding, and the value of teamwork and sportsmanship).  A focus is made on ensuring that participants get equal playing time and exposure to a variety of positions.

Structure

  • Season typically runs May – June
  • Machine or player pitch on first 5 throws (coach’s discretion)
  • No walks (hits or strike outs only)
  • 3 outs or 5 run rule per inning
  • Practice is one night a week on Monday (or two if no games are scheduled on Wednesday) and will be determined by the coaches schedule and field availability.  Practices held in Elk River or Now Then.
  • Games will be played on Wednesday with other ERYSA and surrounding communities including Big Lake, Becker, Zimmerman, Princeton, and Monticello.  Typically, 6:30 start time (but coach may require earlier arrival).
  • Games will consist of 7 innings or 1 hour and 20 min (whichever is less).
  • All girls should get equal playing time.
  • No jewelry is allowed during games or practices, except earring starter sets may be left in but must be covered by tape or a band-aid.

Equipment Needed

  • Association provides jersey, belt, and socks. Jersey fitting time is to be determined and will be communicated via email.
  • Players should provide their own pants, properly fitted helmets (with a required face mask and chin strap), bat, glove, face mask (recommend Champro as they fit for multiple years), and tennis shoes or rubber cleats.  Catches gear is provided but you are welcome to bring your own.

Team Formation

  • Teams formed by age, then by school district (when possible)
  • Players will be notified by their coach after teams are formed.
  • Teams are coached by volunteers. A coach application form can be found under the ‘Registration’ tab.

Age Requirements

Cost, Funding, and Volunteer Requirements

ERYSA will host tournaments this summer. The money the association makes from these tournaments is the main source of fundraising that allows us to keep registration fees down and to purchase and maintain equipment. Thank you in advance for your time! We know your time is valuable and truly appreciate the commitment you make to the organization!

Game Rules

  • Games will be played with 10 players on the field-can play as low as seven.
  • Every player bats in a continuous order; if a player comes late they are to be placed at the end of the batting order. No one should hit twice until everyone has batted once.
  • A half inning ends at the earliest of 3 outs or when 5 runs have scored.
  • Bases are to be set at 60 feet.
  • Pitching rubber is to be set at 30 feet.
  • Players can only play each position a maximum of three innings per night.
  • Pitchers can only pitch a maximum of 2 innings per night.
  • No stealing is allowed. Runner is to remain on base until ball and bat make contact.
  • Only batter and batter on deck should be swinging bats inside the fence.
  • Collision avoidance is mandatory! Sliding is recommended but not required. An umpire may call a girl out if she could have avoided a collision.
  • There are no walks, after 4 balls have been pitched then the coach of the batting team steps in and continues the at bat with the count remaining. The player can either strike out or hit the ball into play. The coach must pitch with reasonable speed keeping in mind the emphasis is on the batters making contact.

Hitting Rules

  • Squaring up and bunting is not allowed.
  • Batters cannot advance on a dropped third strike.
  • Batter may take first after getting hit by a pitch that does not bounce first, but to do so must have made an attempt to avoid the pitch (Umpire discretion).
  • Throwing of the bat results in a warning for the first offence and the next time it is an out. A bat is deemed thrown when the bat hits another player or if it flies eight feet or more.
  • When the ball is under control in the infield, coaches must stop base runners from continuing to advance anymore bases.

Fielding Rules

  • When a ball is overthrown, base runners can only advance one base.
  • The infield fly rule does not apply, unless the fielder drops the ball on purpose.
  • If a play is being made on a base runner, they are not allowed to continue running past the base in which the play was attempted.

The Rules and Regulations above shall govern.  For all other rules of softball, ASA rules should
be followed when possible, always keeping in mind they are 8U.
